About
Ken Hultquist is an Energy Engineer within the ERC. After completing an undergraduate degree in
Engineering Technology, he worked in manufacturing robotics and automation for several years.
Feeling compelled by climate change and the need to reduce carbon emissions led him to
pursue a master’s degree in Energy Engineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC).
During his tenure at UIC he participated in the industrial assessment center (IAC) conducting
ASHRAE level audits of commercial and industrial facilities as well as providing screenings for
the combined heat and power technical assistance program (CHP-TAP). After receiving his
graduate degree from UIC he worked at a non-profit R&D firm for two years working on high
efficiency domestic water and space heating “combi” heat pump systems, automated modular
building construction, and building envelope retrofit technologies. He has since rejoined the
team at the ERC with a focus on distributed energy, CHP, and agrivoltaics.
